Red Sox walk off Yankees in 10th after Sonny Gray no-hit bid, blown save

Jarren Duran's single to right drove in Masataka Yoshida with the game-winning run as the Boston Red Sox survived a comeback by their rivals and completed a four-game sweep of the visiting New York Yankees with a 5-4 victory Sunday night.

Duran capped a three-run 10th inning that included an RBI single by Anthony Seigler which drove in Caleb Durbin and a Tsung-Che Cheng sacrifice fly that scored Andruw Monasterio.

Boston starting pitcher Sonny Gray tossed 7 1/3 hitless innings, but lost his bid for a no-hitter when Amed Rosario singled in the eighth. Gray was pulled following Rosario's hit. He walked one and struck out nine.

The Yankees didn't score until the ninth, when Boston closer Aroldis Chapman allowed a single to Jose Caballero and walked Anthony Volpe. Caballero scored on the first of two costly throwing errors by Red Sox right fielder Wilyer Abreu, and Volpe tied the game by scoring from third on Paul Goldschmidt's grounder to shortstop.

Abreu's second error came in the first at-bat of the 10th, which allowed automatic runner Max Schuemann to score and give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. Rosario scored on a fielder's choice later in the inning to make it 4-2.

Despite allowing two unearned runs in the 10th, Justin Slaten (1-4) earned the win. Fernando Cruz (4-3) gave up all three runs in the bottom of the 10th and took the loss.

It's the first time Boston has swept New York in a four-game series since 2018.

New York starter Carlos Rodon allowed just one hit and two unearned runs in five innings. He walked four and struck out six.

There were no hits in the game until the bottom of the fourth, when Durbin delivered a two-out single that drove in Abreu and Willson Contreras to give Boston a 2-0 lead after a fielding error by third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera.

New York's Jazz Chisholm Jr. was ejected in the bottom of the sixth inning after striking out. He argued with the umpire over whether he had successfully checked his swing on a low pitch that resulted in strike three.
