Sabres 4, Senators 2

Cody McCormick broke out of a scoring drought with a goal and an assist and Ryan Miller made 29 saves as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the visiting Ottawa Senators 4-2 Friday night.

McCormick, who came into the game with one point in his last 13 games, assisted on Mike Grier's first-period goal and added the eventual game winner midway through the second frame. Jochen Hecht and Thomas Vanek also scored for the Sabres, who won their second straight game to improve to 2-3 on their six-game homestand.

Buffalo hosts Detroit on Saturday before playing its next seven games on the road, where it has won six of its last seven contests.

Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek countered for the Senators, who were foiled in their attempt to earn a third straight win for the first time since early November.

Ottawa netminder Craig Anderson stopped 35 shots to fall to 2-1 since joining the Sens in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche.
