Flames 1, Blues 0

David Moss snapped a scoreless tie just over five minutes into the third period and Miikka Kiprusoff turned aside all 27 shots he faced as the Calgary Flames skated to a 1-0 home triumph over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday.

With the victory, Calgary (32-23-9) moved past three different teams to claim sole possession of sixth place in the ultra-competitive Western Conference standings.

The Flames also ended a two-game skid after posting a 7-0-2 mark at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Calgary is now 19-10-4 at home this season.

With both teams knotted in a scoreless tie, Alex Tanguay forced a turnover and fed Moss, who wired a shot past rookie Ben Bishop at 5:39 of the third period for his second goal in as many games and 15th of the season.

Making his 16th straight start, Kiprusoff made the modest offense stand up by securing his fifth shutout of the season and 39th career. The 34-year-old Finn stopped 10 shots in the first period, three in the second and 14 in the third.

Bishop deserved a better fate in this one. The 24-year-old Denver native was bidding for his second straight shutout in just his sixth career start before permitting Moss' goal.

Bishop finished with 19 saves for St. Louis (28-25-9), which has dropped four of its last five games.
