Red Wings 7, Kings 4
Drew Miller recorded his first career two-goal performance, and captain Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk scored power-play goals as the Detroit Red Wings extended their road winning streak to six games Monday with a 7-4 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings.
Darren Helm and Jiri Hudler each had a goal and an assist, Dan Cleary also scored and Jimmy Howard celebrated the signing of a two-year extension earlier in the day by making 35 saves for the Red Wings, who improved to 2-0 on their five-game road trip.
Brad Richardson registered a goal and an assist while Jonathan Quick allowed six goals on 24 shots before being pulled as Los Angeles had its four-game home winning streak snapped. The Kings could have used newcomer Dustin Penner, who led Edmonton with 21 goals before being acquired earlier Monday.
Miller, who entered with four goals in 54 games this season, forged a 1-1 tie at 6:37 of the first period and completed his career-best effort at 5:53 of the third to give Detroit a 6-1 cushion. Cleary put the Red Wings ahead for good 30 seconds after Miller's first tally and Lidstrom beat Quick with a one-timer with 1:12 left in the first.
Datsyuk scored his sixth goal in eight games with 42 seconds remaining in the middle period and Helm highlighted a three-goal third for Detroit with a shorthanded tally.
