Sabres 5, Flyers 3

Jason Pominville scored the game winner early in the third period as the Buffalo Sabres rallied for a 5-3 road victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon.

With the score tied 3-3, Pominville redirected a Tomas Vanek shot from in close at 6:37 for his 16th goal of the season. Pominville, Tyler Ennis and Andrej Sekera each finished with a goal and an assist as the Sabres erased a two-goal deficit to improve to 2-0-1 on their marathon seven-game road swing.

The victory also moved the Sabres to within a point of Carolina for eighth in the Eastern Conference, with Buffalo holding two games in hand.

Nathan Gerbe also scored for the Sabres while Drew Stafford added an empty-netter for his first goal in nine games.

Kimmo Timonen, James van Riemsdyk and Kris Versteeg countered for the Flyers, who have dropped three of four. Versteeg's goal was his third in two games.

The Flyers jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Sabres erupted for three goals in the second period. Timonen's shorthanded marker drew Philadelphia even heading into the third period.
