Oilers 2, Canucks 0

Ryan Jones and rookie Magnus Paajarvi scored and Devan Dubnyk made 26 saves to record his second career shutout as the Edmonton Oilers won their second straight against the NHL-best Vancouver Canucks with a 2-0 triumph on Tuesday.

Rookie defenseman Jeff Petry picked up two assists for the Oilers (25-43-11), who own the lowest point total in the NHL with 61. There is still a chance they could overtake the Colorado Avalanche (29-42-8) and avoid finishing with the worst mark in the league.

The Canucks (52-19-9) have already wrapped up the Presidents’ Trophy.

In the closing seconds of the first period, rookie Jordan Eberle took advantage of a power play when he wired a shot toward Roberto Luongo from the left faceoff circle. Jones, who was standing in front to screen the All-Star netminder, had the puck deflect off him and into the net for his 18th goal of the season with three seconds left in the session.

Edmonton added a 5-on-3 power-play tally for insurance when Paajarvi wristed his 14th tally past Luongo with 2:46 left in the game.

Luongo finished with 22 saves for Vancouver.
