Flyers 3, Devils 0

Ilya Bryzgalov turned aside all 20 shots he faced as the Philadelphia Flyers spoiled Peter DeBoer's debut as coach of the New Jersey Devils with a 3-0 road triumph on Saturday.

Claude Giroux collected his second goal in as many games and rookie Matt Read and Wayne Simmonds also scored for Philadelphia, which posted a 2-1 victory over the reigning Stanley Cup-champion Boston Bruins in its season opener on Thursday.

Signed to a nine-year, $51 million deal in the offseason, Bryzgalov secured his 24th career shutout by stopping seven shots in the first period, 10 in the second and just three in the third.

After Giroux opened the scoring in the first period, Read and Simmonds gave the Flyers some breathing room by tallying just over two minutes apart in the third period.

Read's wrister from the slot resulted in his first career NHL goal, while Simmonds cleaned up a loose puck in front of Martin Brodeur for his first goal since coming over from the Los Angeles Kings in the Mike Richards deal.

A lack of scoring continues to plague New Jersey, which ranked dead last in goals per game (2.09) last season.
