Blues 4, Sharks 2

Kent Huskins and Alexander Steen scored early third-period goals as the St. Louis Blues rallied to beat the San Jose Sharks 4-2 on Saturday night.

Matt D’Agostini tallied and David Backes added an empty-netter for the Blues (2-2-0), who secured a rare win in San Jose. They had dropped 13 of the 16 previous meetings at HP Pavilion.

Blues goaltender Brian Elliott stopped 34 of 36 shots in his first start of the season.

St. Louis entered the final period trailing 2-1 but evened things on Huskins’ unassisted wrist shot at 4:33. Steen then provided the go-ahead goal with a wrister of his own that beat Thomas Greiss at 9:18.

Michal Handzus and Brent Burns scored for the Sharks (1-2-0), while Ryane Clowe had two assists.

D’Agostini put the Blues up 1-0 in the first before Handzus leveled things with the Sharks on the power play after Backes was whistled for interference.

Burns’ finish midway through the second frame gave his squad a 2-1 edge. It was his first goal since being acquired in an offseason trade to help boost the Sharks’ blue line.

The Blues have split the first two of a four-game road trip that sees them face the three California teams in a span of four days.
