Bruins 7, Maple Leafs 0
Tyler Seguin scored his first career hat trick to power the visiting Boston Bruins to a 7-0 mauling of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
Tim Thomas turned aside 25 shots for his 27th career shutout as the Bruins won back-to-back games for the first time this season and handed Toronto its first regulation home loss.
Seguin fueled a rapid-fire attack that on three separate occasions produced two goals in spans of eight, 14 and 28 seconds. Boston has outscored Toronto 13-2 in two games this season behind four goals and two assists by Seguin.
Milan Lucic added a pair of goals, David Krejci had a goal and two assists and Patrice Bergeron contributed three assists for the reigning Stanley Cup champions.
Maple Leafs netminder Ben Scrivens, who had 38 saves in winning his NHL debut Thursday night, was chased after surrendering five goals on only 14 shots.
Seguin scored his second goal just 34 seconds into the second period for a 2-0 lead. Lucic made it 3-0 eight seconds later, sneaking behind the Toronto defense and snapping a shot between the pads of Scrivens.
Seguin completed his hat track at 15:01 of the second before Krejci pumped home another goal 14 seconds later to end Scrivens' night.
