Coyotes 4, Oilers 2

Boyd Gordon's goal midway through the third period stood up as the game-winner as the Phoenix Coyotes put an end to the Edmonton Oilers' six-game winning streak with a 4-2 home triumph on Saturday.

Veteran Daymond Langkow scored to collect his 650th career point and defenseman Adrian Aucoin netted his first goal of the season for Phoenix, which posted its fourth win in five games (4-1-0). Ray Whitney added his team-leading sixth goal with an empty-net tally to seal the win.

After top overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored to cut Edmonton's deficit to one at 2-1 at 9:27 of the third period, Gordon restored the two-goal advantage just over two minutes later by backhanding the puck past Devan Dubnyk.

Defenseman Theo Peckham answered with a deflection just over two minutes later to bring the Oilers to within 3-2, but Mike Smith closed the door to secure his fourth straight win. Smith turned aside 24 shots to improve to 6-2-2 on the season.

Starting for the first time in eight days, Dubnyk finished with 26 saves as Edmonton was unable to record its first seven-game winning streak since it rolled off nine in a row from Feb. 20-March 13, 2001.
