Sabres 5, Capitals 1
Rookie Luke Adam scored a pair of goals and Jhonas Enroth bounced back from a rough outing with 26 saves as the host Buffalo Sabres routed the Washington Capitals 5-1 Saturday.
Adam opened the scoring midway through the first period and added some insurance early in the third to pace the Sabres, who ended an ugly three-game losing skid.
Enroth was sharp from start to finish, atoning nicely after being given the hook in Friday's 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 23-year-old improved to 8-3-1 on the season with his first victory in a week.
Adam and Jason Pominville gave Buffalo a 2-0 lead before Washington responded on a penalty-shot goal from Jason Chimera 6:39 into the second period. It was the third goal in three games for Chimera, who leads the team with nine tallies.
Zach Kassian restored the two-goal advantage just 27 seconds later, and Adam extended the edge 1:12 into the third, lugging the puck out of the corner before rifling a shot past Capitals netminder Tomas Vokoun.
Jochen Hecht rounded out the scoring with a shorthanded goal with 5:21 remaining.
