Penguins 4, Canadiens 3 (OT)

Kris Letang scored the game-winner at 2:51 of overtime after returning from a hard hit to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 4-3 victory over the host Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

Evgeni Malkin added a goal and an assist and Jordan Staal scored the tying goal for the Penguins, who improved to 3-0-1 since Sidney Crosby returned to the lineup.

James Neal got the assist on the game-winner when he brought the puck in towards the net backward before turning and firing on goal. Carey Price made the initial save but Letang came up and stole the puck from under Price before drawing it back and firing off a wrist shot.

Staal’s tying goal came with 4:30 left when he came off the bench on a line change and got a pass from Malkin going towards the net. Staal beat three Canadiens to the slot and wristed it past Price.

Shortly after the tying goal, Letang took a brutal open-ice hit from Max Pacioretty, getting caught with his head down after passing. Letang stayed down on the ice, bleeding from his face before being helped to the dressing room. The Montreal native returned for overtime.

Montreal led 3-1 after Erik Cole’s seventh goal at the 11:09 mark of the second period. The Penguins pulled within one on Pascal Dupuis’ sixth tally 5:31 later.
