Flyers 5, Lightning 2
Daniel Briere and Jaromir Jagr scored 34 seconds apart as the Philadelphia Flyers tallied three times in the second period and posted their fifth straight win with a 5-2 triumph over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
Wayne Simmonds scored and set up a goal and Claude Giroux had a pair of assists before exiting after Simmonds' knee hit his head during the second period. Giroux, who entered Saturday's play as the NHL's points leader, did not return to the contest.
Briere accepted a feed from Simmonds and beat goalie Mathieu Garon at 2:38 to tie the game at 1-1.
Jagr hammered a deflected shot off the crossbar and past Garon at 3:12. It was Jagr’s 656th career goal, tying him with Brendan Shanahan for 11th on the all-time list. Briere and Jagr also had assists in the third.
Simmonds’ power-play goal went in off Lightning defenseman Brett Clark’s skate at 14:49 for a 3-1 lead.
Vincent Lecavalier recorded a power-play goal 55 seconds into the third to get the Lightning within 3-2.
Defenseman Matt Carle responded at 4:55 on the power play and Scott Hartnell added a late empty netter to extend his goal streak to five games.
Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov also left in the third period and was replaced by Sergei Bobrovsky.
