Predators 2, Blues 1 (SO)
David Legwand had the lone shootout goal as the Nashville Predators edged the visiting St. Louis Blues 2-1 Saturday night, extending their winning streak to five games.
After both teams came up empty in the first two rounds, Patrik Berglund looked to put the Blues in front but rang a shot off the right post. Legwand then stepped up for Nashville and sent the home crowd happy, flipping a backhand over the glove of St. Louis netminder Jaroslav Halak.
After playing more than 52 minutes of scoreless hockey in regulation, both teams hit the scoresheet in a 3 1/2-minute span. Martin Erat struck shorthanded to put Nashville ahead at 12:32, converting a slick pass from defenseman Shea Weber for his first goal in 14 games.
T.J. Oshie tied things for St. Louis with 3:52 remaining in regulation, finishing off a 2-on-0 sequence with the Blues enjoying a power play.
Pekka Rinne single-handedly kept the Predators in the game through the first two periods, making 29 saves as Nashville was outshot by more than a 2-to-1 margin over the opening 40 minutes.
Halak wasn't as busy but was just sharp, making his best save on a glorious Nashville scoring chance early in the third period. Halak stopped the initial shot by Patric Hornqvist, then stuck out the paddle of his goal stick to deny Sergei Kostitsyn on the rebound.
