Maple Leafs 5, Islanders 3

Clarke MacArthur had a goal and an assist as the Toronto Maple Leafs earned a rare win on Long Island, beating New York 5-3 Friday in the final game for both teams before the holiday break.

MacArthur's first multi-point effort in 18 games helped the Maple Leafs win for just the sixth time in their last 23 visits to Uniondale.

The Islanders fell for the sixth time in eight games.

Toronto dominated the opening 12 minutes and built a 3-0 lead as a result.

MacArthur's snap shot on the short side past Islanders netminder Evgeni Nabokov gave the Maple Leafs a 1-0 edge at 1:43. Nazem Kadri doubled the lead less than three minutes later, converting a backhand shot from the low slot for his second goal in as many games since being recalled from the American Hockey League.

Carl Gunnarson made it a three-goal advantage at 11:15, blasting a point shot that eluded Nabokov.

Joey Crabb had a shorthanded goal and Joffrey Lupul added an empty-netter for the Leafs, who have won two straight following a three-game losing skid.

Kyle Okposo, Frans Neilsen and John Tavares countered for the Islanders.
