Bruins 3, Panthers 2 (SO)
David Krejci had his 11-game points streak snapped but scored the decisive goal in the fourth round of the shootout as the Boston Bruins posted a 3-2 road victory over the Florida Panthers on Monday.
Patrice Bergeron tallied twice in regulation before extending the shootout, All-Star Tyler Seguin notched a pair of assists and Tuukka Rask made 38 saves for Boston, which has won five straight visits to the BankAtlantic Center.
After Stephen Weiss gave Florida the edge in the third round of the bonus format, Bergeron kept the Bruins alive on their third chance. Mikael Samuelsson failed to get off a shot for the Panthers in the fourth round, and Krejci fired the puck between Scott Clemmensen's pads to clinch the win.
Bergeron opened the scoring 80 seconds into the game with a wrist shot from above the slot that found its way past Clemmensen.
Florida defenseman Jason Garrison's blast from the left point deflected off two bodies in front before entering the net 8 1/2 minutes into the second period, tying the game. But Bergeron redirected a pass from Seguin between Clemmensen's pads during a 5-on-3 power play with 5:20 left in the sesson to complete his third two-goal performance in seven games and give Boston a 2-1 edge.
The lead lasted 74 seconds as Shawn Matthias beat Rask on a breakaway from the blue line for his eighth goal of the season.
Michal Repik had a chance to be the hero for the Panthers late in the third, but his shot on a breakaway with a minute remaining went wide. Florida's Kris Versteeg also failed to convert a solo rush with 18 seconds to go in overtime.
Clemmensen stopped 33 shots for the Panthers, who have lost eight of 11 overall but earned a point in 12 of 15 at home (9-3-3).
