ISLANDERS 5, MAPLE LEAFS 2: Matt Moulson scored twice to lead visiting New York to back-to-back road wins.
The Islanders avoided getting swept in the season series with the Maple Leafs, going 1-2-1 versus Toronto.
Moulson cashed in on a delay of game penalty to put New York ahead 3-2 with just over six minutes remaining in the third period.
PA Parenteau added an insurance goal two minutes later with a great individual effort, streaking to the net while holding off the defender to slip the puck past James Reimer on the backhand.
Toronto managed just 13 shots on goal for the second straight night. The Maple Leafs mustered just 13 shots in an 8-0 loss to Boston Monday.
The Maple Leafs got on the board first with Phil Kessel’s 36th goal of the season as he rifled a cross-ice pass from Tyler Bozak off the net cam. The goal helped Kessel tie his career high from the 2008-09 season.
New York answered five minutes later, when John Tavares set up a streaking Josh Bailey for a one-timer.
Matthew Lombardi put the Maple Leafs ahead 2-1, picking up the puck behind the net and stuffing it past Evgeni Nabokov on the backhand just over four minutes into the second period.
Michael Grabner made a slick one-touch pass off the backhand to David Ullstrom, who blasted the puck past a helpless Reimer to tie the score at 2-2 at 13:08 of the second frame.
Moulson scored his second goal of the game into an empty net with 18:25 left in the third period.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Bozak recorded his 100th NHL career point. … Tavares joins Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier and Denis Potvin, who all recorded 71 or more points at age 21 or younger.
