Avalanche 2, Flames 1 (OT)

AVALANCHE 2, FLAMES 1 (OT): David Jones scored 3:51 into overtime as red-hot Colorado moved into sole possession of seventh place in the Western Conference.

Jones tapped in a rebound of a Paul Stastny shot for his fourth game winner of the season, lifting the Avalanche to their fifth win in the last six games. The victory allowed Colorado to leapfrog Phoenix for seventh spot in the conference, though the Coyotes have a game in hand.

Stastny had Colorado's lone regulation goal, while Semyon Varlamov preserved the win with a 31-save effort.

Matt Stajan had the regulation goal for Calgary, which sits two points back of the No. 8 seed with eight games remaining.

Stajan opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game, converting his own rebound after blowing past three Colorado players on his way to the net.

Stastny evened things just past the nine minute mark of the period, tipping home a Shane O'Brien offering past Calgary netminder Miikka Kiprusoff. The goal gave Stastny 37 points in 34 career games against the Flames.

That was all the offense in regulation, as the Flames squandered three power-play chances the rest of the way. Colorado didn't have a power play in the game.
