Wheeler wins fifth straight as Mets knock off Marlins

Zack Wheeler won his fifth straight decision, leading the New York Mets to a 6-2 win over the host Miami Marlins on Friday night.

Wheeler (7-6) allowed four hits, one walk and two runs in seven innings, striking out eight. Miguel Rojas' two-run homer in the seventh snapped Wheeler's streak of 23 2/3 scoreless innings.

Miami didn't get its first hit until Martin Prado singled leading off the fifth. Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto doubled in the sixth, snapping his 0-for-23 hitless skid.

Jose Urena (3-12) took the loss, allowing eight hits -- all singles -- one walk and four runs in 5 1/3 innings. He is just 1-9 at Marlins Park this year.

New York opened the scoring in the third inning, starting a rally with none on and two outs, stroking three straight singles. Rookie Jeff McNeil singled, advanced to third on Wilmer Flores' hit and scored when Michael Conforto pulled a 96 mph fastball to right, past a shift.

The Mets extended their lead to 4-0 in the sixth.

Conforto battled back from a 1-2 count to draw a leadoff walk, advanced to second on Brandon Nimmo's groundout and moved to third on a single by Todd Frazier. Austin Jackson then earned an RBI on a single to center that deflected off Urena's glove.

Amed Rosario capped the inning with a two-run single off reliever Drew Rucinski. Rosario's hit went just under the glove of second baseman Starlin Castro, who dove for the ball.

Miami got on the board in the seventh. Left fielder Rafael Ortega, making his Marlins debut, hit a two-out single, and Rojas followed by pulling a 95 mph fastball over the fence in left. It was Rojas' ninth homer of the season, a career high.

New York got those two runs back in the eighth, taking a 6-2 lead. Frazier singled, Jackson followed with a ground-rule double and Kevin Plawecki hit a two-run single to center.

Before the game, the Marlins traded starting first baseman Justin Bour to the Philadelphia Phillies for a pitching prospect. Miami also put former closer Kyle Barraclough on the disabled list due to back stiffness.
