Senators 3, Hurricanes 2 (SO)

Jason Spezza extended his goal-scoring streak to four games and also netted the lone shootout tally as the Ottawa Senators posted their third straight victory, 3-2 over the host Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.

Enforcer Zenon Konopka also scored and Sergei Gonchar notched two assists for Ottawa, which halted its seven-game losing streak in Carolina.

Spezza beat Cam Ward with a snap shot in the second round of the shootout and Craig Anderson denied Tuomo Ruutu on Carolina's final attempt to end the Senators' four-game slide on the road.

After a scoreless first period, Konopka and Spezza scored in the second to give Ottawa a 2-0 lead, with Spezza converting a power-play opportunity with 84 seconds remaining in the session.

Anderson, who made 32 saves, was less than five minutes away from his 17th career shutout before Carolina rallied. Ruutu broke through with 4:52 to go, and reigning Calder Trophy winner Jeff Skinner scored 6 seconds after Senators defenseman David Rundblad was whistled for holding with 2:31 left in regulation.

Ward stopped 26 shots as the Hurricanes have lost three in a row.
