Stars 3, Coyotes 2 (SO)

Trevor Daley scored on his first career shootout attempt in the eighth round to lift the Dallas Stars to a 3-2 victory over the host Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday.

Dallas' Adam Burish scored the tying goal with 1:01 left in regulation when he took a pass from Mike Ribeiro on the doorstep and tapped it into the open net.

Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves and stopped seven of eight in the shootout to improve to 7-0-0 in seven starts, and Sheldon Souray added a power-play goal for the Stars.

Shane Doan scored his 300th career goal to give the Coyotes a 2-1 lead at 8:13 of the third period. Ray Whitney took a rebound on the right side and redirected it to the left, where Doan was waiting to slap it past Lehtonen.

Daley, a defenseman with 34 career goals in eight seasons, got the better of former teammate Mike Smith when he sent the puck past his left skate for the clincher.

The last six meetings between Phoenix and Dallas have been decided by one goal, with four going past regulation. The Stars won a 2-1 shootout in the first meeting Oct. 10.

Raffi Torres also scored for Phoenix.
