Flyers 5, Hurricanes 1

Claude Giroux scored a goal and set up three others and Jaromir Jagr scored twice during a four-goal third period as the Philadelphia Flyers skated to a 5-1 home triumph over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.

Scott Hartnell netted his fourth goal in as many games and Max Talbot added a shorthanded marker for Philadelphia, which posted its second win in six contests (2-4-0) and defeated Carolina for the 15th time in 18 games.

After being admittedly "terrible" and having "zero confidence" in himself following Thursday's wild 9-8 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, Ilya Bryzgalov showed why the Flyers signed him to a nine-year, $51 million deal on Saturday. The Russian rebounded after yielding Jussi Jokinen's second-period goal before slamming the door for his first win since Oct. 12. He finished with 24 saves.

With the game tied at 1-1, Jagr extended his points streak to four games after snapping a wrist shot past former Flyers netminder Brian Boucher just 39 seconds into the third period.

Talbot doubled the advantage at 5:46 after cleaning up a shot by Giroux, who then gave Philadelphia a 4-1 edge just 1:50 later by wristing a shot past Boucher.

Boucher finished with 29 saves for Carolina, which suffered its fourth loss in five games (1-2-2).
